Parenting is hard. Often times we hear parents say “He’s my oldest, I don’t know how it’s supposed to be” or “Each kid is different”. Amy Hertzberg is a parent coach who works with families to solve some of the most challenging parent worries.
Amy’s story: I’ve always had a passion for working with children and families. As a social worker, I worked with children and families in foster care and adoption. I also worked as a placement counselor for a prominent Nanny Agency in the California. However, I didn’t truly understand how challenging parenting can be until I became a parent myself. So my interest in parent coaching began over a decade ago when my kids were much younger and I felt frustrated and ineffective as a parent. Through parenting courses, books and my own work with a coach, I discovered new perspectives, learned new strategies and regained confidence as a parent. The experience was so fulfilling that it motivated me to become a parent coach to empower others.
What I am most passionate about and what I feel is the most urgent parenting topic today, Caroline, is empowering parents to step back to raise resilient kids who can problem-solve and can cope when life is uncomfortable, difficult or unfair.
And isn’t it our job as a parent- to prepare our kids for life outside of our homes. So, If I can work with parents to make this shift early on, I know it can help prevent some of the anxiety and low adaptation skills we see today.
